Child Care
Finding child care you are comfortable with might be the most important component of a good work and personal life balance. Rice is committed to providing great options on and off campus that meet your needs.
- As many of you already know, the Rice Children's Campus is becoming a reality. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions that will provide Rice faculty, staff and students with many of the answers about the children's campus. We hope that you will decide to enroll your children in the inaugural class of the children's campus. If you have questions not covered by the FAQ, please email your questions to childrenscampus@rice.edu and we will try to get you the information that you need. You can also visit the Construction Information Center on campus to find out more about the children's campus building, or visit the website. In addition, a flyer is being mailed home to benefit-eligible Rice faculty and staff as another way of spreading the word about benefits currently available to us and our families, from the most junior to the most senior members.
Please note that actual online registration for the Rice Children's Campus begins on March 17, 2008. All you need to do is fill out the online enrollment form on the Children's Campus Website. Metropolitan Montessori will be the campus operator and will also be conducting the registration. You must register through the website if you are interested in enrolling your child or children. You do not need to put a deposit down at this time, but will be asked for a deposit when you are notified of acceptance. This online registration will not be "open for business" until the 17th.
- Preferential placement, discounts and locator services are available through Rice's child care resources.
- Back-up child care through Bright Horizons is available for $10/day for those times that your regular arrangements are unavailable.
- Additional back up child care is available through Backup Care Options is available at home ($4/hour) or in an available center around Houston ($2/hour).
Summer Camps
- Rice's Recreation Center has a summer youth activity program, and Rice employees receive early registration and a discount.
- Rice's Athletics Department runs many summer camps for the Houston community, and Rice employees receive a 10% discount.
- Rice also has lots of summer programs for children in grades K-12, university students, and others.
- Rice has partnered with KiDVENTURE to offer summer camp programs to faculty and staff at their convenient locations across Houston -- as a Rice employee you receive free before and after camp care!
